Khayelitsha is the largest township in Cape Town with an estimated population of 2,4million people (2021). The majority of this population depends on the government's health care system.
Before the construction of Khayelitsha Hospital a section of the Tygerberg Hospital (about 25km away was set aside for patients coming from Khayelitsha.
This shows how desperately this area needed a hospital.
